MUSCAT: Omanis who completed a Russian language course were feted at the Russian House, marking an important milestone in the development of the institution's educational activities in Oman.

They were part of the introductory programme, held from June 1 to July 13. They were trained by a native Russian-speaking instructor and focused on practical Russian, giving participants a foundation for communicating in the language with confidence.

Russian House Oman is an official partner of Rossotrudnichestvo, a Russian federal government agency promoting Russian cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and the programme brought together an international group of participants from different national and cultural backgrounds.

“Over just a few weeks, we saw how the Russian language became a reason for people to communicate, form new connections and develop a genuine interest in Russia. It is especially important to us that participants want to continue learning. This is why we are already planning to open new groups in September and continue developing Russian House Oman's educational programme,” said Anna Popova, Head of Russian House Oman.

“We enjoyed learning the language over two months and we never felt that we were acquiring a new linguistic skill and that was the method of learning. Thanks to the Russian House and the teachers,” an enthusiastic Omani learner said.

Igor Egorov, Chairman of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots' Organisations in Oman, said that language is always about more than words.

“It is an opportunity to better understand people, their way of thinking and their culture. And it is often this kind of mutual interest and understanding that leads to genuine human, professional and long-term connections between countries,” Egorov said.

Russian House representatives said that interest in the Russian language is growing alongside closer ties between Oman and Russia, with more opportunities for direct interaction in business, tourism and education. Russian House Oman is an independent platform that develops cultural and educational projects and builds long-term business and institutional partnerships between Russia and Oman.

Its flagship project, the Spring Festival Maslenitsa in Muscat, welcomed more than 46,000 visitors in 2026, making it one of the largest Russian cultural events in the GCC region.
